The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a suspected armed robber and recovered a deadly AK-49 assault rifle, along with other dangerous weapons, in a successful operation carried out in the Alagbado area of the state.
According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the arrest followed credible intelligence about the suspect’s movements and involvement in recent robbery incidents in the area. Acting swiftly, a tactical team launched an operation that led to the arrest of the unnamed suspect during the early hours of Sunday.
Upon search, the operatives recovered one AK-49 rifle, two magazines, several rounds of live ammunition, and other items believed to be linked to criminal activity. SP Hundeyin confirmed that the suspect is currently undergoing interrogation and is cooperating with investigators.
“This is another breakthrough in our relentless efforts to rid Lagos of violent criminals. The recovery of the AK-49 rifle is especially significant because of its power and rarity in local crime circles,” Hundeyin noted. “We urge residents to continue partnering with us by reporting suspicious activities in their communities.”
The AK-49 rifle, a variant of the more commonly known AK-47, is considered even more lethal due to its modifications and rapid-fire capabilities. Security analysts warn that its presence in the hands of criminals poses a serious threat to public safety.
Residents of the Alagbado area have expressed relief at the arrest, praising the police for their swift action. Many also called for increased patrols and community engagement to prevent further criminal activities.
The Lagos Police Command reassured the public of its commitment to proactive policing and vowed that the suspect would face the full weight of the law.
