Over the past few years, a wild, baseless theory has circulated among a small yet noisy group of Nigerians who claim that former President Muhammadu Buhari was “replaced” by a Sudanese impostor named “Jibril.” Yes, you read that right. These conspiracy theorists genuinely believe that a sitting president of Africa’s most populous nation was secretly swapped and nobody noticed—no family, no aides, no governors, not even international diplomats.

Let us be very clear: this theory is complete nonsense, a national embarrassment, and an insult to the intelligence of over 200 million Nigerians. It is time to address it with the disdain and mockery it deserves.

🧠 Conspiracy Without Logic

Those who push the “Jibril of Sudan” myth are not just misinformed—they are willfully ignorant. They claim that Buhari “died” during his medical trip to London in 2017 and that a Sudanese clone replaced him. Their proof? A supposed change in Buhari’s ears and writing style. Seriously?

This would be laughable if it weren’t so disgraceful. Are we now a people who believe ears cannot look different in photographs due to angles or lighting? Has the bar for evidence fallen so low that Photoshop memes pass for investigative journalism?

Buhari’s reappearance after his medical leave came with public addresses, international trips, and full security protocol. He met with heads of state, gave speeches in Hausa and English, and even aged visibly over the following years—just like every other human. The only thing that changed was the imagination of idle minds looking for drama.

🤡 Making a Fool of Themselves

The real “Jibrils” are not in Aso Rock—they are the loud-mouthed charlatans on social media who invent delusions to distract the public. These keyboard warriors prefer fantasy over facts because it gets them attention. They parade half-baked YouTube videos and WhatsApp broadcasts as “evidence,” yet they can’t explain how a so-called impostor fooled the entire Nigerian government, armed forces, diplomatic corps, his own children, and lifelong friends.

Even Buhari’s own family—his wife, children, and relatives—have publicly dismissed this madness. Would his wife not know if her husband was swapped with a stranger?

🗣️ Buhari’s Response: Calm and Confident

In fact, former President Buhari himself calmly addressed the rumors in a 2018 town hall meeting in Poland, saying:

“It’s the real me… I will soon celebrate my 76th birthday and I will still go strong.”

He didn’t rant. He didn’t call names. He simply let truth stand tall against idiocy.

🧹 A Call for Sense and National Dignity

Nigeria faces real problems: insecurity, inflation, joblessness, and a struggling naira. Instead of obsessing over fairy tales, we must focus on holding leaders accountable for real policies—not imaginary doubles.

Those still shouting “Jibril of Sudan” in 2025 are not political analysts—they’re gossip merchants. And they should be treated as such: with a loud laugh, a firm eye-roll, and a reminder that nations are built by serious people, not comedians in disguise.
